Built and managed in partnership with local residents, Begue Lodge is an “off-the-grid” solidarity ecolodge on the barrier island of Dionewar in the remarkable Saloum Delta region of Senegal, which is listed by UNESCO as a Man and Biosphere Reserve, cited as a “remarkable testimony to the synergy between a natural environment with extensive biodiversity and a still present, albeit fragile, mode of human development.”
The 4 huts of Begue Lodge are nestled “village-style” under palm trees, medlar trees, ditars and baobabs, connected by winding shell paths, just steps from the ocean.
Each hut is built and furnished in the traditional style by local artisans, each with its own bathroom with toilet, porch or private outdoor space. Each hut is equipped with mosquito nets.
Begue Lodge offers a vacation experience where simple island life is in harmony with nature and a cultural exchange with the delta people who are an integral part of this unique environment.
You will be welcomed on the spot by Malick, Astou who will cook for you, Bintou and Bousso who will take care of your rooms and the service, Aïssatou who you may not see but who will see to it that everyone is paid as it should be and Dianoune who will see to it that everything goes smoothly during your stay.
